Product Description

horizon pier cushion by from brighton with love £45

this design was inspired by the view of the sea from sally’s front door, as there is frequently a lighter stripe of colour where the sky meets the sea. she captured the view and the inspiration in the photograph that can be seen in the gallery. she translated this into a range of six colours all inspired by Brighton and the surrounding area.  There are Downs (in two shades of green inspired by the lovely South Downs), Sea (in two shades of teal), Sky (in two shades of blue), Storm (in black and grey), Beach (in beige and grey – the colour of the pebbles on Brighton beach) and Pier (in two shades of pink – just like the candy floss and sticks of rock you buy on the pier).

The cushions are 40cm x 60cm, and are knitted from 100% wool. they fasten on the back with five shell buttons. They come with a feather cushion pad.

The cushions covers can be washed by hand (or on a gentle wool cycle at 30 degrees in the washing machine – using non-bio washing liquid) reshape while damp and do not tumble-dry! They can also be dry-cleaned.

Please allow up to 3 weeks for delivery, as your cushion will probably need to be made to order. Normally you will receive it before then but sally doesn’t want to be caught out!

about the artist

sally set up ‘from Brighton With Love” in Summer 2012 when she moved to the city after many years living in London where she worked in the design industry. Having studied fashion knitwear a very long time ago at Leicester Polytechnic she decided to return to her love of making things and bought herself a couple of knitting machines and retaught herself how to use them! Over the years she has gained a real passion for interiors so knitted interior accessories seemed like a good idea. Everything is made by herself in a room at the top of her house in central Brighton (although she hopes to find a nice and light studio space in the near future).

She is a self-confessed “colour and texture” person rather than someone who likes a lot of pattern. As a result a lot of her cushions incorporate 3d techniques, which gives texture to the items and makes them very tactile. Some of these are achieved by using the intarsia technique and others feature unique “twists”.

she likes a nice bold stripe as well and her new Horizon range is inspired by the view of the sea from her front door, there is frequently a broad stripe of lighter colour where the sea meets the sky. she has interpreted this into six colourways all inspired by Brighton; they range from the greens of the South Downs to the pinks of Candy Floss and Sticks of Rock that you buy on the Pier!
